Edge Sculpture - King of the Mountain Gorilla Bust
Edge Sculpture 'King of the Mountain' Gorilla Bust by Matt
Buckley New Introduction presentation.
Matt and his brother Dan are lost in the Atlantic Ocean and
discover a mysterious island to launch a new Gorilla to the Edge Sculpture
portfolio.
Edge Sculpture is a range of hand cast and hand painted
modern statement pieces for the home, sculpted by Matt Buckley in his studios
in Shropshire.
Hello Folks ….. It is very very true that for me the
passively powerful image of a Silverback Mountain Gorilla has become synonymous
with the spirit of Edge Sculpture itself.
The Gorilla has such a special place in our hearts because
in many ways they represent an extremely soulful echo of ourselves and indeed
mirror so many of our human emotions through quiet changes in their facial
expressions and body language that you may even assume they could talk.
We always revere what we admire, and the Gorilla is so well
regarded that they have become entrenched in both modern story and visual
statement. Whether it’s the calling of Hollywood or the many characterisations
utilised for both product and design, we love the Gorilla and I must confess so
do I.
So yes folks …. I had to sculpt another one 😁…,
largely based on a clay prototype I sketched up many years ago but now finally
realised in a new experimental form. I really wanted to try something a little
different and maybe a little more theatrical with this piece by bringing a
section of his stoically solid chest and granite like shoulder into the sculpt
in order to bring this chap to life,
along with all the wonderfully moody expression of a thumpingly mighty
Silverback with the only thing missing being of course a name.
He could be a George or a Joe, a Winston or a Kong, this
part of course is up to you …. So, what name would you have in mind I wonder …🙂…
For now, however may we present our Edge Sculpture King of the Mountain ….😀
All the very very best,
Matt
