BEHIND THE BRAND Seddon and Davison

Learn how Mark's original photography has been used to create beautiful design led gifts.

About Us

We started Seddon and Davison in 2018,  because we felt there were lots of people, like us, who love the country style but wanted design led accessories with a more modern kick to them. Striking wildlife silhouettes and designs but on subtle, heritage coloured backgrounds.

Mark (Davison) is the creative behind all of our designs - with everything based on Mark’s original photography.  Kara (Seddon) works on the final designs together with Mark, looking at colours and materials to use, finding British manufacturers to work with, and managing the marketing and sales side of things.

When we started the company late last year we produced an initial range of fine bone china mugs,  two or three designs for wash bags, cushions and tote bags, and a selection of cards and fine art prints…and went along to Country Living and Living North Christmas Fairs to see what the feedback was! A real leap of faith.

Since then, we have added many more designs - and have also launched our beautiful luxury velvet cushions to our collection, as well as tea towels and coasters.

We have also started to work with several retailers in the UK to provide our products, and see the Home and Gift Fair as a wonderful opportunity to launch our brand properly within the design led gift and homewares market.

Ethos

We decided from the outset though that that our company needed to play its part in re-invigorating design and manufacturing skills in the UK; something we both feel strongly about and continue to support.

We are both big admirers of John Ruskin and William Morris and our philosophy for Seddon and Davison pays tribute to their influence on British manufacturing and design - only to design products that will be treasured for both their style and quality; remaining timeless in your home.

We take pride in what we produce - not prepared to compromise, and making sure we demonstrate our values and philosophies throughout (from the detail on a label,  the materials we use, to the way we package our products).

Our Product

Our products are year round; modern country living, with a twist. We like to think our style is contemporary, and stylish - but still brings a smile to your face too. Less fluffy hare and more “twinkle in his eye” hare. As well as monochrome designs, we are also very keen on heritage inspired colours and how these work together. Think indigo blues, dusky pinks, sage greys, and pale lavenders.

We have also launched a really luxurious range of cotton velvet cushions in black, teal and claret so gorgeous warm, rich colours.  They feature a series of vanitas inspired images with stag and bison skulls so very dramatic, and very much a statement piece.

We have almost tripled our product range in the last few months so we’ve been extremely busy getting those designs ready since January.  We are working on some more designs now - with a more horticultural theme, and Mark has also been working on some beautiful lino print designs which we think will translate really well into a new textiles range.

How our designs are made:

Once we have a design ready, we work with UK companies in Staffordshire, Lincolnshire and Stoke-on-Trent who help us to produce small runs of our products and finish them by hand for us. Our cards are all printed in Cheshire; even our prints are framed using frames hand made in Yorkshire.

We really do work hard to live up to the goal we set ourselves - to make sure everything we produce is made here in the UK, and to be of exceptional quality. It is easy to pick up a mug that says “hand decorated in the UK” and think it is made here but in reality the ceramics are not from a UK pottery, they are just finished here. It is important to us that your mug was actually made here too.

Last Thoughts…

We absolutely love what we do.  Having met 5 years ago, and been married for 2, we decided to follow our passion for both nature and beautiful design.  Life is a juggle - with 5 children between us and quite a few animals…but we wouldn’t have it any other way now.  We continue to meet some incredible designers at every show or event we do, all of who support each other, as well as some great British manufacturers who understand what we are trying to achieve, working with us in producing quality made homewares and accessories.
