BEHIND THE BRAND Tweedmill

For decades Tweedmill has been delighting buyers and customers alike with their gorgeous range of textile products. Following their launch of new-season designs at Home & Gift virtual, we caught up with them to learn a little more…

For those who aren’t familiar with Tweedmill, tell as a bit about the brand? What makes it unique?

Tweedmill is a British brand established in 1971 and is renowned for its quality, creativeness and reliability. Situated next to Flint Castle in the historical town of Flint, our designs are influenced by the colours and serenity of the surrounding area. With local woodlands, nature reserves and the River Dee on our doorstep. We have been inspired to create a fantastic and diverse range of products. We offer an extensive and colourful choice of key textile products consisting of throws, cushions and picnic rugs which complement our beautiful accessories for ladies, gents and pets. Our products are produced from a wide range of materials, specialising in Pure New Wool and Tweed production.


How was the Tweedmill brand first brought to life?

Tweedmill was first known as Afonwen Woollen Mills which started out producing skirt lengths. In 1993 Jackie Ryan took the reins and built Tweedmill Textiles into the brand we know and love.  Today Tweedmill is still a family run company which is always striving to create new and exciting textile products while keeping the value and quality we are known for. Our customers are the top priority, we aim to continuously supply an excellent service to each one across the UK and Worldwide. Being a manufacturer based in the UK allows us to offer a bespoke service. Tweedmill offers its customers the option to create their own unique designs, create personalised labels for products and brand throws with embroidered logos.

What’s been the biggest highlight in the brand’s journey so far?

There have been many highlights over the years, we pride ourselves in successfully growing as a company year on year. Throughout the growth we have expanded our product range, from selling Tartan and Ties, to having a beautiful collection of traditional and contemporary designs across all our product ranges. Tweedmill proudly supplies many retailers across the UK and around the world, we even have the privilege of working with big name brands. Next year will also be a brilliant achievement, as we look to commemorate 50 years of Tweedmill. We look to celebrate in style, so keep an eye out for some exciting changes next year.

 

Talk us through the design process for new products?

Through-out the year our marketing and design team research seasonal trends in colour, pattern and textiles as inspiration for each new catalogue launch.  Everything from the shape of tyre tracks to windowpanes have been a muse for creating new weaves. Twice a year we expand our range and look to bring in a selection of new colours and designs, to keep it looking new and exciting. Improving our existing product range is also an important aspect of the design process for us. We always strive to produce the best quality products and service our customers know us for, so their feedback and knowing what they are looking for is very important when expanding our collection.

In our Autumn/Winter 2020 catalogue we have some beautiful new throws and exciting products launching across all of our collections. We discussed all of these in our webinar for Home & Gift virtual, which you can watch here.

We are obviously in very unprecedented times. What are you doing to stay positive and keep the brand looking ahead?

Firstly, we would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support through these uncertain times and hope you are all staying healthy and safe. We have taken this time as an opportunity to look at the business as a whole and how we can make changes to improve. Our main focus for the upcoming months, is to support our customers as much as possible. As many shops are now able to re-open, we're offering as much as help as we can to ensure businesses can get back to normal. 

What’s the team’s positivity recommendation during this time?

During these uncertain times we love to see how positive and dedicated our customers have been, we love to see what they have been up to and hear what exciting changes they have been making to adjust to the circumstances. The NHS key workers have also been an inspiration to us, the commitment they have shown is truly outstanding. We wanted to show our appreciation by running a giveaway on our Instagram to award 25 staff members with a personalised Rainbow throws. We asked for nominations and were lucky enough to receive so many incredible and heart-warming stories about staff members.
