With a mission to create worldwide family traditions and memories, Malene founded We Love Seasons in 2018 to fill our homes with timeless seasonal decorations and gifts. We Love Seasons focuses on offering contemporary products for Easter, Halloween and Christmas which are inspired by my Scandinavian Heritage. Returning to Home & Gift for their 2nd year we hear Malene's insights to starting her brand.

Hi Malene, can you share with us how We Love Seasons began?

I wanted to capture the essence of my family’s traditions at these special times of year. My mother always used to gather the most beautiful decorations for our home for every season, and I loved being part of this family tradition. Homemade hearts made out of red felt would adorn the entrance to the living room, garlands made out of fresh pine would hang from the dining room doors, hand-painted figurines would sit on the windowsills, all under the watchful eye of Santa and his helpers, made out of stones with knitted scarves and hats. The main feature of course was the Christmas tree, decorated by my Dad with red baubles, lights, drums, Danish flags and glistening with fine gold lametta.

So often nowadays, we are buying decorations, which get thrown out each year, and so we don’t get the chance to create our own traditions. My mission is to offer timeless decorations and gifts which can be used again and again, to help people form their own traditions over the years.

Why is it you love what you do and what has been your biggest highlight whislt creating your bran?

The biggest highlights so far have been designing and sourcing new products and meeting our customers. I love coming up with ideas for decorations and creating something new with a view to it becoming a treasured favourite to another family. We are also very fortunate to work with some lovely customers and it’s great to see them in person at the trade fairs.

Knowing what you do now, what advice would you give to yourself when you were first starting out?

When starting a business alone you have to do every role yourself, from sourcing products to website design, from completing accounts to marketing. Be prepared to go on a step learning curve and gather as much knowledge as you can in the new areas. For me, the one I knew least about was social media so I spent a few evenings with friends trying to learn how it all worked!

Can you tell us about your new collections/ranges that you’ll be launching at Home & Gift?

We Love Seasons will be releasing a new collection, We Love Valentines, to ensure the perfect romantic setting for your special someone. This will be displayed along with this seasons Halloween and Christmas collections.

Any personal favourites from your new collection?
My favourites would have to be the UK designed Golden Ceramic Christmas Tree and Heart Ceramic Hanging decorations. These have been created with longevity in mind and make great gifts as well as decorations for your own home. The Christmas Villa was designed as a statement decoration to bring out year after year; it’s so lovely to see family favourites out of storage and taking pride of place each Christmas.

For Easter, I have a soft spot for the Handmade Vine Bunnies and the wooden Easter chicks. These were sourced with the aim of including more and more sustainable and environmentally friendly products within our ranges. Not to mention that they have such expressive faces I can’t help but smile when I see them!
